1All directory objects in Azure Active Directory count towards this limit. Global administrators are exempt from this restriction, as are applications that call Microsoft Graph throughapp permissions.

2This limit includes archived teams.

3To further increase the number of computers, you must contact Microsoft Support and request an additional increase in the number of Azure Active Directory objects in your tenant. The expansion is performed only for real production scenarios.

4Deleted channels can be restored within 30 days. During those 30 days, a deleted channel still counts towards the limit of 200 channels or 30 private channels per team. After 30 days, a deleted channel and its content will be permanently deleted and the channel will no longer count towards your team limit.

528 KB is a rough limit as it includes the message itself (text, image links, etc.), @mentions, the number of connectors and reactions.

6Shared channel members outside of the team count towards this limit. Also note that team/channel mentions are blocked for teams with more than 10,000 members.

Use

For information on shared channel limits, seeShared channel limits.

Chat

Users participating in conversations that are part of the chat list in Teams must have an Exchange Online (cloud-based) mailbox for an admin to search chat conversations. Because the conversations that are part of the chat list are stored in the cloud-based mailboxes of the chat participants. If a chat participant doesn't have an Exchange Online mailbox, the admin won't be able to find or have chat conversations. For example, in an Exchange hybrid deployment, users with on-premises mailboxes can join conversations that are part of the chat list in Teams. However, in this case, the content of these conversations is not searchable and cannot be persisted as users do not have cloud-based mailboxes. (For more seeHow Exchange and Microsoft Teams Interact.)

The "Set delivery options" button (!) is also removed when private group chats contain more than 20 members.

2Only 200 members can be added to a group chat at a time. For more information, see this article..

428KB is a rough limit as it includes the message itself (text, image links, etc.), @mentions, and reactions.

Send an email to a channel

When users want to send email to a channel in Teams, they use the channel's email address. When an email is part of a channel, anyone can reply to it to start a conversation. These are some of the restrictions when sending email to a channel.

special featureupper limit
message size124 KB

Use

There is a limit to the number of emails you can send to a channel. The limit is six emails per ten seconds per channel per user and eight emails per ten seconds per tenant per user.1If the message exceeds this limit, a preview message will be generated and the user will be prompted to download and preview the original email using the provided link.

2If the number of attachments or images exceeds this limit, an error message will be displayed.

For more information, seeLimites de Handels Online.

Use

Message, attachment, and inline image size limits are the same for all Microsoft 365 and Office 365 licenses. Sending email to a channel is not available in Teams for Office GCC/GCCH/DOD organizations.

store

Each Microsoft Teams team has a team site in SharePoint Online, and each channel in a team gets a folder in the default team site document library. Files shared in a conversation are automatically added to the document library, and file security options and permissions set in SharePoint are automatically reflected in Teams.

Use

Allprivate channelhas its own SharePoint site (formerly known as a "site collection").

If you haven't enabled SharePoint Online in your tenant, Microsoft Teams users may not always be able to share files across teams. Users in private chat also cannot share files, as OneDrive for Business (which is linked to the SharePoint license) is required for this functionality.

All compliance rules configured at the tenant level are followed when storing files in the SharePoint Online document library and OneDrive for Business. (For more seeHow SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business Interact with Microsoft Teams.)

Because Teams runs on a SharePoint Online file sharing server, SharePoint restrictions apply to the Files section of a team. These are the applicable storage limits for SharePoint Online.
